The Monaco Chamber of Shipping supports the 1st Monaco Hydrogen Forum
On 21-22 November 2022, the Hôtel Hermitage hosted the 1st Monaco Hydrogen Forum, organised by the non-profit association Monaco Hydrogen Alliance, in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II and over 200 participants from 31 countries. The aim is to create a favourable ecosystem for the development and use of renewable hydrogen to decarbonise land, sea and air transport.

In order to contain the rise in temperature, like other sectors, the global maritime transport industry, which emits 3% of greenhouse gases (GHG), must decarbonise, and renewable hydrogen, also known as “green” hydrogen, is one of the energies of the future to achieve this.
As a partner of the Monaco Hydrogen Forum, the Monaco Chamber of Shipping, which represents some forty professionals in the sector (shipowners, brokers, shipping agents, advisors and experts in maritime law), and covers all aspects of maritime transport, from cargo ships to cruise liners and trade negotiations, has fully understood this.
“We are convinced that hydrogen is a solution for the future of maritime transport. That’s why we supported this event, in particular by sponsoring the gala dinner on 22 November at One Monte Carlo, to which our members were invited, as well as the high-level conferences which focused on the means and actions to be implemented to advance the use of renewable hydrogen in transport. I was also able to represent the maritime industry as a member of the competition jury in front of an audience made up of international leaders from the sector, experts, and political and institutional decision-makers”, explained Emanuele Lauro, President of the Chamber, who also took the opportunity to award the first Monaco Prize for Innovation in Renewable Hydrogen and Transport. The award was presented by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince to the French company Genevos, which is developing clean, ready-to-use hydrogen fuel modules to power emission-free ships. Presenting the award, H.S.H. Prince Albert II said: “We need to move forward to find solutions. Hydrogen is one of these solutions.”

Monaco is an important location for the maritime industry, with international companies having based their headquarters here. “Our industry has undergone a great deal of development and technological modernisation over the last 20 years. Those involved in shipping need to communicate better about what they are doing, to show the reality of the sector, and the efforts that are being made to reconcile respect for the environment with economic imperatives“, he concluded.
